SONG OF THE HOUSEBOUND

By George Martin

I only go where thoughts can take me,
I only see what dreams may see,
And if I sleep, please don't awake me,
Let me be, O, let me be.

Think not that I am tried by sorrow,
Minds may roam amongst the stars,
And I can close my eyes and borrow
The music sung on alien bars.

I am adrift and feather light
  Upon the keening Alpine wind,
And you who come near in the night
  Bring love and warmth
And our souls open up and blend.

I only go where thoughts can take me,
But they take me where rivers run,
Whose sparkling waters soothe and slake me,
And eagles soar against the sun.

Then I rise up and walk with eagles
Upon their own, their private skies.
