The Creeper.
I actually like the sequel better where the Creeper actually appears through most of the movie but in order to tell you about the sequel, I first have to tell you about the original movie. Two siblings, Trish and Darry Jenner, driving home from college for spring vacation, spot a truck driver who appears to be dumping a bloodstained body near an old abandoned church. Darry Wants to investigate what is going on at the church. The brother and sister return to the church where they find a wide pipe going down beneath ground. At the bottom of the pipe, they find many bodies sewn together covering the ceiling. After leaving the church, they stop at a local diner where they receive a phone call from a mysterious woman who warns them that they are in danger. In the background, they hear the song "Jeepers Creepers" playing. The woman warns them that when they hear that song, they must run for their lives. They decide to ignore the warning. Later they discover that the church has burned down, destroying the evidence of the bodies. Trish and Darry want to put as much distance between themselves and the local area as possible. But feeling a sense of ethical duty, they stop at the home of an old woman and relate the story of the bodies to her and ask her to call the police. Before she can lift the phone receiver, she sees the truck driver hiding outside her house. She fires at him with her shotgun but her shots appear to miss him. The siblings run out and get into their car and run the truck driver over several times. It seems that they have crushed his body and killed him. But he revives, regenerates his body parts, and opening what appear to be large batlike wings, he flies away. Later, at the local police station, they receive a visitor, Jezelle Gay Hartman, the woman who phoned Darry and Trish at the diner. Jezelle tells them that the truck driver is actually an ancient monster known as the 'The Creeper' which hunts humans every 23 springs for 23 days to eat their body parts which, then become parts of its own body. Eventually the Creeper comes after them and they hear the song "Jeepers Creepers" playing as he draws nearer to them. Of the two, Darry is the more frightened and he is the one whom the Creeper actually wants to kill and eat. I cannot tell you the denoument but rent the film or watch it on the Sci-Fi Network. It, and its sequel, Jeepers Creepers II, seem to be constantly playing on that channel a lot these days, perhaps in preparation for the release of the second sequel, Jeepers Creepers III: Cathedral.

Storyline: JEEPERS CREEPERS II begins four days after the events ending the first film. The young son of a farmer, Jack Taggart Sr, is grabbed by the Creeper who flies off with the boy as Taggart watches helplessly. Meanwhile, a school bus carrying a group of high schoolers are on their way home after winning a sports championship. While the kids are chanting victory songs, the bus suddenly has a blown tire. When the driver investigates, she finds a star shaped metalic object embedded in the tire. It turns out that the star was hurled by the Creeper from high above the bus. The bus is now stranded on a lonely road and high school teens, their coaches, and cheerleaders must defend themselves from the Creeper. Their struggle to survive consumes most of the story of JEEPERS CREEPERS II. Meanwhile, Jack Taggart and his older son, Jack Jr, set out to hunt down the Creeper. In one scene, the kids actually fight off an attack by the CREEPER by impaling him with an iron beam taken from the damaged bus. But that does not deter the creature who removes the beam, rips off the head of one of the teens and incorporates it into his own body. The story of the struggle on the bus and the story the Taggart's search for the Creeper intersect on the lonely road where the Creeper finds that he is now the object of an attack. The CREEPER has actually killed many of the people on the bus and is stalking one of the teens even after Taggart has disabled it by firing a specially devised harpoon at it. Taggart is committed to killing the monster who killed his young son. Before the CREEPER can kill the young man he is persuing and before Taggart can kill it, dawn rises on the 24th day, and the CREEPER goes into chrysalis and will be dormant for another 23 summers. Taggart takes the creature back to his farm and the final sequence of the film shows both Taggarts 23 years later, waiting for the CREEPER to emerge from its inactive state. I enjoyed the JEEPERS CREEPERS series. I saw the second one first and at the time, I was not aware that both movies were connected stories. While I found JEEPERS CREEPERS I merely interesting, I found and still find JEEPERS CREEPERS II exciting. I think that the CREEPER is one of the scariest horror creatures ever featured on the screen and I look forward to JEEPERS CREEPERS III if they ever decided to complete filming and release it.

Did You Know? Trivia Gina Philips turned down the chance to reprise her role from the first movie, but Justin Long has a cameo. The Creeper shares a similarity to the Cy-Bugs: Whatever they eat, it becomes a part of them. Goofs: The Creeper is supposed to hunt every spring. In the opening scenes, the cornfields all show full stalks of corn. Cornstalks are not that full until late summer or fall. In the spring, they are just being planted. Quotes [first lines] Taggert: [yelling out to Billy, who's putting up scarecrows] Billy! Get number three up now. Don't come in to eat before you do. And check the other two! Make sure they're wired up good. I don't want them blowing over again the first big wind. Connections: References The Silence of the Lambs (1991) From a review by Coventry from the Draconian Swamp of Unholy Souls November 28, 2004 "All the characters in Jeepers Creepers are equally meaningless so you never really know who will get killed next ... The film is not as gore as you might think and the stress is more laid on tension ... The only familiar face in Jeepers Creepers 2 is Ray Wise (from the cult series 'Twin Peaks'). From the webpage at http://villains.wikia.com/wiki/Creeper_(Jeepers_Creepers) In addition to his regenerative powers, the Creeper is quite resilient. In the first film It was run over several times and was still alive, It then sprouted a bat-like wing. In the second film it is impaled with harpoons multiple times yet retains the ability to move, including several head wounds. The Creeper only stops moving when it reaches its hibernation period. The Creeper employs a variety of weapons in his pursuit for food. He commonly carries daggers and shurikens made from the flesh and bones of his victims (and, possibly, himself). He also uses a medieval battle axe in the first film, which may indicate that it has once lived some where else. The weapons he creates are shown to move of their own accord (or, perhaps, return to their master) in the second film, where a knife flies across a room under its own power, traveling through a leather lamp before embedding into a nearby wall. Later in the film, the same knife has been converted into a harpoon-like weapon to be used against the Creeper by allowing it to guide itself to its target. He also uses a truck to scare potential victims. The license plate on his truck reads "BEATNGU", "Be Eating You"--commonly confused as "Beating You"--. The truck can attain unusually high speeds (at least 100MPH) despite its decrepit exterior. So far, apart from the trailers, there is no movie yet. Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral MGM has announced a third installment, Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral. The film will continue the story of the original film with Trish (Gina Philips) who now has a son named Darry, after her late brother (Justin Long) who was killed by the Creeper in the first film. Trish suffers from a recurring nightmare that her son will suffer the same fate. Trish, who is now rich and powerful sets out with Jack Taggart, Sr, and Jack Taggart, Jr on a mission to end the Creeper's reign of terror once and for all. The film will also feature the infamous Creeper truck. Jeepers Creepers IV: Victor Salva is also planning a television series based on the movie trilogy... |
