POEMS FROM THE APOCALYPSE

2009

Apocalypse (from the Greek: Apokálypsis; "lifting of the veil")

Apocalypse is a revelation of hidden things revealed!

Revelation 6
2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
5 And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death.

Zechariah 14
1 Behold, the day of YHWH cometh
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to YHWH, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

I began writing poems, romantic and erotic poems in particular, at the end of the 1980s, and towards the end of the 1990s, my inspiration for the creation of poetry appeared to have dried up. Although I did write a few love poems in the first few years of the 21st century, their content, style, and aesthetic were shallow. And finally, I stopped writing any poetry at all.

In September, 2008, I took a trip to New York City to be present at my grand daughter's birthday. I spent a week there and realized how much I missed being there. On my return to the midWest, I composed a love poem to the city of my birth. The poem can be read on this website by clicking here.

Towards the end of 2008, I began to feel the stirrings of my poetic muse, once again inspiring me to sit and compose poems of enthusiastic romance and joy, as well as longing. It is the longing for an earlier time when I felt that there was all the time in the world.

But I fear that time is running out and that the Day of YHWH will dawn, at least for me. Already there are days in my life in which the light is neither clear nor dark, and my future is hard to discern. It is during those days that I know that the following day is only known to YHWH, and I wish for a revelation of the hidden things in my future. But because they are not yet revealed to me, I must compose again, and leave a continued legacy of my emotions for a few others to read. Perhaps they will recognize themselves in me and find some emotional comfort for themselves.

The balances of our lives are in the hand of YHWH. And if we look very well, we also will behold a pale horse, and the one who sits on him, waiting for us all. While there is breath within us, let us not let him take our peace. But let us be strong and conquer him one day at a time. Let us live and love, and find joy in our creations.

These humble poems are my gift to you, reader. Share their excitement and passion along with me.
